Enjoying Christmas in Sedona in 2017

Winter is coming upon us and while this means that many people in other states are dreading winter and hunkering down to stay out of the cold, everything comes to life when it becomes winter in Arizona.

Winter in Arizona means the weather is nearly perfect, depending on what part of Arizona you want to hang out in, and that the snakes are hibernating so it’s perfect for outdoor activities. Winter in Sedona could mean an occasional snow fall, which we all celebrate for the small amount of time the snow actually sticks. It also means wonderful festivities in Tlaquepaque like visiting Santa and the tree lighting. When the bell tower chimes at 5 p.m., more than 6,000 luminarias will be lit along Tlaquepaque’s cobblestone walkways and courtyards. The afternoon includes live music from local musicians as well as Phoenix’s River of Life Tabernacle Choir, seasonal treats and a visit from Santa Claus.

Tlaquepaque Christmas in Sedona

In Uptown Sedona, you also can enjoy the tree-lighting, entertainment and Santa visits with children from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Canyon Breeze Plaza.

If you like to ski, a drive up to Flagstaff is less than an hour away and we have the wonderful Arizona Snowbowl. You can ski or snowboard, snowshoe or just simply play in the snow.

While in Flagstaff, find out if they are having their annual “The North Pole Experience”. This is a “Christmas adventure of a lifetime that takes families on a trolley ride through the magic portal to Santa’s massive workshop in the middle of the forest. Children and parents are then guided off the trolley where they knock for the elves. Once families enter Santa’s toy factory headquarters that is where the real magic begins. Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole Experience is a complete, hands-on experience for children. Families work side-by-side with the elves, building toys and interacting with the workshop bustle. They receive access to Santa’s main factory floor with soaring toy slides and ceilings, attend Elf University, visit with Mrs. Claus and enjoy cookies and snowman soup in the bakery. Families end the hour and 1/2 workshop tour with a private family visit with Santa.” Experience the North Pole Experience throughout December.

And last, if you have small children or grandchildren, you will want to check out the Polar Express. Every winter the Grand Canyon Railway’s Polar Express comes to life on a journey from the nighttime wilderness of Williams, Arizona, to the enchanted beauty of “the North Pole”—where Santa Claus and his reindeer are waiting with a keepsake present for every good boy and girl. You’ll be smiling from ear to ear, as you watch children’s faces light up when the train arrives, and enjoy hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies while listening to this timeless story.
